2023 Predictions
2023 will be more uncertain than 2022. This leads into the possibility of either large outsized gains or major and insurmountable losses at your organization. If you want to play it safe, focusing on skills and market demand won’t lead you astray. Selling things to people that they don’t need won’t be in next year, but it could return by 2024 if macroeconomic policies normalize.
The big shifts to watch for are jobs and value. Jobs are shifting toward cost-saving approaches in the eyes of the CEO, while value is shifting from “tell me” to “show me.” You need to be able to demonstrate your value.
Many technology companies will be gone by this time next year. The debt game is up for companies that still haven’t found profitability or aren’t on a reasonable path to profitability. That being said, simple yet profound business models that scale well are always good in this type of scenario. Higher-margin businesses will do wonders for reducing various currency-related risks, but a consistent and well-developed low-margin business will be fine too. For something low-margin to work, it needs to be in a nice distribution lane that isn’t open to disruptions. If disruption is possible, the low-margin business will face additional pressure next year!
